Burials

The traditional way to say goodbye

Burials

What is a burial?

A burial, also known as interment, is a practice that involves burying the deceased in the ground. Burials take place in dedicated cemeteries or burial grounds and are recognised by most faiths and cultures. Most people are buried in a coffin, but some faiths opt for a simple funeral shroud.

After the main funeral service, mourners will attend a short committal service at the grave. This may include readings and prayers, before the deceased is lowered into the ground. Mourners may then scatter soil or flowers over the coffin. The grave will be filled with soil after the funeral has finished.

Types of burial

As a family-run funeral business, we are committed to providing affordable funerals. We work in a flexible way, going the extra mile to support you through the experience of arranging a funeral. We offer three main types of funerals for you to choose from…

Limited Service Burial

A simple service burial

A limited service burial includes everything you need to give your loved one a dignified and uncomplicated graveside service. This option includes a service, but takes a simplified and streamlined approach. It is perfect for families who want a graveside service without the fuss.

FAQs

Where will the burial take place Angle Down

Burials take place at dedicated cemeteries or burial grounds. This could be a churchyard, religious or non-religious cemetery, or natural burial ground. We will be able to advise you on the nearest or most suitable places to bury your loved one. If you arrange a direct burial through Dillamore, the burial will take place at a local cemetery.

Can I choose the date and time of the burial? Angle Down

This will depend on the type of funeral you choose. For direct burials and limited service burials, you may not be given the option to choose the date/time of the funeral. For bespoke burials you will be able to choose from a selection of days and times.

Where will my loved one be kept before the funeral takes place? Angle Down

Unlike many funeral directors, your loved one will stay with us at our premises on Old Road throughout their time with us. This allows us to provide the very best care for your loved one, and means you can visit them in our Chapel of Rest whenever you wish.

What is a green burial? Angle Down

A green burial is a type of funeral that prioritises the environment and sustainability in the choices made for the funeral. There is no embalming, and a person is placed in a shroud or biodegradable coffin. Green burials take place at dedicated natural burial grounds, with a tree planted, if required.

Are burials more expensive than cremations? Angle Down

Whilst burials have the potential to be more expensive than cremations, it isn’t always the case. The cost difference between burial and cremation will depend on many things, including the type of burial or cremation you choose and the other choices you make for the funeral. Our team will be able to give you a more accurate understanding of costings, and will provide you with all the information you need to support your decision.
