What is a limited service funeral?

Choosing the right type of funeral for your loved one is an important decision, and one of the first decisions you’ll need to make when someone dies. For some families a full service funeral is important, whilst others seek a simpler or more affordable option for their loved one. There are many types of funeral to choose from, depending on your beliefs and wishes, or your budget.

Here at Dillamore, we offer three main types of funeral – direct funerals, limited service funerals and bespoke funerals. In this blog we’ll explain limited service funerals, our simple service funeral package, in more detail.

What is a limited service funeral?

A limited service funeral is a simple funeral that provides everything you need to give your loved one a meaningful goodbye, but takes a more streamlined approach to a traditional funeral. All the main elements of a funeral are included, including a service, but they take a more prescribed format and have limited opportunity to personalise them. They are best suited to families who want a very simple, low fuss funeral, or who want to keep costs down.

What are the benefits of a limited service funeral?

There are several benefits to choosing a limited service funeral, but the main benefit is in the price. With the cost of funerals rising every year, many families are stretched when it comes to paying for a loved one’s funeral. A limited service funeral focuses on the parts of the funeral that matter, such as the service, and avoids any unnecessary additional costs.

Another benefit is in the simplicity of the funeral. Families aren’t faced with the burden of making lots of decisions regarding the funeral, which can help to ease the burden a family may experience as they come to terms with the loss of their loved one. The simplicity is also a good choice for families who want to arrange a more straightforward funeral without any personalisation.

What are the downsides of a limited service funeral?

For some families, creating a funeral that celebrates the life of their loved one is important. This may include lots of personal touches that make the funeral feel unique to the person who has died. At a limited service funeral, the options to personalise the funeral are limited and some families may find the simplicity too restrictive. In this instance we would recommend opting for a bespoke funeral, which are more flexible in nature, and allow you to tailor the funeral to your own wishes.

How much do limited service funerals cost?

The starting cost for a limited service funeral at Dillamore is £1,785* + third party disbursements. A third party disbursement is a cost that comes from an external supplier, such as venue costs, funeral flowers and cremation/burial fees, and sit outside of our financial control.

What other types of funeral does Dillamore offer?

In addition to limited service funerals, we also provide direct funerals (our most affordable funeral) and bespoke funerals (a full-service, bespoke funeral)…

Direct funerals – a direct funeral is a funeral without a service and is the most affordable type of funeral we offer. We take your loved one straight from our premises to the local cemetery or crematorium, and you only pay for the essentials, such as the coffin, the funeral director’s fees and burial/cremation costs. They are best suited to those who want to keep costs down or who don’t want a service. Visit our direct funerals page for more information.

Bespoke funerals – a bespoke burial or cremation is our most flexible option and allow you to tailor the funeral to your individual wishes. They are best suited to families who want to arrange a more personalised, full-service funeral. Every last detail is taken care of to ensure your loved one receives a memorable and heartfelt goodbye.
